TRAFFIC, part 10, my answers

The choice here is between:

  • hitting a motorcyclist who is wearing a helmet (and so penalising the responsible motorist)
  • hitting a motorcyclist without a helmet (and meting out street justice against less responsible motorists)

To penalise or penalize is to punish.

Meting out is a phrasal verb. It means something like ‘give out’, but it’s used for punishments or rewards. It’s not related to ‘meeting’!

For the question of what the car should do, I don’t see a fair answer. My choice would still be to continue straight ahead and hope to minimise the accident. What would you suggest the car should do?

(This is part of a lesson on my main site – here’s the link).
